Clear Channel of San Antonio decided to put a call out to area artists to submit images for consideration in their upcoming Digital Art Billboard Show! Out of 79 artists only 40 were selected. AND, guess what?! "Hat Dance" (see below) was picked for one of the images! Starting now, all 40 images will be seen on billboards around San Antonio til around December 18. Go to Clear Channel's FaceBook page to see the locations. My painting will be in the Blue Group. I am very excited that it will be seen by SO many people!!!

"Boerne Christmas"

Just want to wish a Merry Christmas to anyone who happens to wander onto my blog. This painting is my Christmas card this year....as it does for me, it will have special meaning for anyone who loves Boerne and the Texas Hill Country.

As autumn and winter bring refreshing, cold air to the Texas Hill Country, the Virginia Creeper bursts into bright reds, decorating the trees, fences, and stone walls just in time for Christmas. There might still be some small blue berries that haven’t been found by the birds and small mammals. Be on the lookout for Mother Nature’s garlands, even in your own back yard. Imagine how lovely it would be to have Boerne’s iconic gazebo festooned with this native plant….no batteries needed, for this “Boerne Christmas”.

"Hat Dance"

Okay, this is so much fun, I think I'll add another! This is called "Hat Dance". As anyone who has seen these flowers waving in a Texas breeze can tell you, they often look like they're dancing on their slender stems. They are extremely tough natives and can withstand the heat and the dry of Texas summers.

This is the art created for Art and Conservation 2011. I was especially excited to see a portion of it appear in the online emagazine, www.CityPagesMagazine.com.

The lottery draw assignment for Art and Conservation led me to Fabra Acres, a wonderfully complex property, full of plant diversity and varied terrain. There’s a little bit of a trek to one of its hidden secret places: down the bank, across the creek, past the Butterfly Meadow…going until you are stopped by a limestone bluff. But then, at just the right time of the year, there’s the reward: surprisingly blazing color amidst the tanned grasses and subdued gray green live oaks, with just a touch of creek water to quench the fire. Sit a while and smile at “Maples….Found!” Special thanks to the generous property owners for sharing this 'hidden treasure."

Spring Parade of Artists!

Finally, (hmmm, I see that I began the last post with that same word. Is there a pattern here?) I am adding another posting! But I'm excited about the upcoming Parade of Artists here in Boerne. You can go to www.boerneart.com to see all the dates/times/events that will be happening. I've been working on several new paintings that will be Revealed for the first time this week. Most will be at the Carriage House Gallery where I continue to show my work. Two will be at the Cibolo Nature Center (www.cibolo.org) as part of the Parade.

The Unveiling!

Finally, the time arrived for everyone to see "Art Rhythms", the painting for the Cibolo Arts Council Fall Festival of Arts. And this weekend the festival is here. I've received lots of wonderful comments about the painting/poster. People love finding all the 'hidden' musical and art symbols and seem to find new ones with each viewing. It was a challenge but great fun to create this piece.

The Reveal is Coming!

This is the teaser image for a postcard I mailed out inviting everyone to the unveiling of the 2008 Cibolo Arts Council Fall Festival of Arts and Music. At the conclusion of last year's show, the CAC commissioned a painting to be done for the next year's poster. It was a challenge to bring together all the elements of the festival: theater, music, paintings, sculpture, pottery, etc. But it was fun!

The Reveal will be at Boerne's Tin Roof Steak House on September 2nd from 5 to 7pm. During the reception signed posters can be purchased. After the unveiling, I will post the painting here on the blog. No peeking before!!!

Blog vs. Website

I hope everyone has enjoyed looking at and reading this blog. I am experimenting with a new website. For now, everyone will be directed to the blog when they type in www.LindaChalberg.com.
The new website is at http://lindachalberg.mosaicglobe.com . This is the more conventional type artist website with galleries of images. I still enjoy including my little 'stories' about my paintings. I'm not sure about having the advertising at the side, but I am thinking about that.
Some people might like to just look at the images instead of reading all those blog entries!

Don't forget, our BIG Parade of Artists is coming up next weekend. Lots of FUN!

April will be a very busy ART MONTH! On April 5th I will deliver eight paintings to The Bright Shawl at 218 Augusta in San Antonio. They will join the artwork of Lesta Frank and Mary Johnson for a three person, two month long exhibit. They will hang until June 7th. (http://www.brightshawl.com/)

Then, on April 12th the Carriage House Gallery of Artists at 110 Rosewood in Boerne will host another Second Saturday Art and Wine Weekend Experience. The gallery will be open late until 8pm. Visitors can ride the free trolley throughout town, see the art galleries, and meet the artists. It's a fun evening. (http://www.visitboerne.org/)

On April 18,19 and 20 the Boerne Area Artist Association will have its annual Parade of Artists. I will be displaying some new paintings at the Carriage House Gallery. (http://www.boerneart.com/ and www.thecarriagehousegallery.com)

Kiwanis Western Art Show

January 25th marks the opening of the 45th Annual Kiwanis Western Art Show in San Antonio. This will be my first year to participate in this prestigious event. The exhibition and sale will be in the Pioneer Memorial Museum at 3805 Broadway, next to the Witte Museum. The exhibit will be open Jan. 25-27 and Feb. 1-3. Over 100 artists will be showcasing their original work. http://www.alamo-kiwanis.org/

Of the eight paintings in my exhibit, "Secret Cibolo" is a favorite. I created it from a sketch I did sitting on the banks of the Cibolo in Boerne's Cibolo Wilderness Preserve. It's a wonderfully peaceful place with the waters gently swirling around the cypress knees. I was alone there that day and felt like I had this secret hideaway all to myself.

"Poppy Play"

October 19th- 21 the Cibolo Arts Council of Boerne will host the Fall Festival of Art and Music. It will be held at the Convention Hall at Kendall Inn located on the Main Plaza. The schedule of events can be found at http://www.ciboloarts.org/ . I will have several new pieces for everyone to see for the very first time. Although Friday evening is the CAC's fundraiser event and requires a ticket for admission, Saturday and Sunday are free and open to the public. I hope everyone will come.

"Narni Hillside"

Giclee Prints are very high resolution, museum quality reproductions of artwork. They are printed on archival watercolor paper and canvas.

"Missions' Melodies"

This is a fun painting that takes a look at the San Antonio Missions in a different way. I overlapped five missions to create a design. The unifying factor of all the missions is their bells. Whether to warn of danger, toll out sorrows, ring in joy or to just bring the people together, they played an enormous roll in the lives of those who lived nearby.

Smith Art Gallery at Scott White Hospital

I'm excited to be having a one woman show at the Smith Art Gallery at the huge regional complex of Scott White Hospital. There are thirteen paintings that will be on display for the month of September. Gallery co ordinator, Jackie Cicora, told me that 3,000 people will pass by the exhibit each day. And after spending only a couple of hours there hanging the paintings, I can believe it! This main corridor seemed to be at the core of this busy place and before we even had the paintings unpacked, people were stopping to look. Hopefully, many of the patients, family and staff will be uplifted for a small moment of their day by my art. Each piece is titled and many have information about the place that inspired its creation. Numbers are references to the price list that Jackie will keep for those who are interested in 'adopting' a painting. Or, I can be contacted at llchalberg@hughes.net.

Rainy Day

After rain, rain, and MORE RAIN, I decided to bring out some sun....at least some sun-flowers. This is one in a series entitled Suns and Globes. They're all based on some sketches I did of these red orange to red to yellow sunflowers and globe amaranths. I love the vibrant colors in the flowers and thought it was only fitting for such 'fireballs' to have their own solar system of 'globes'. This watercolor is 24"x24" and is currently hanging at the Carriage House Gallery. Hope it brings some sunshine to your day.

From My House to Goudargues

On my first painting trip to Europe, I joined a group and traveled to a tiny village named Goudargues in Provence. The small stream was channeled into a miniature San Antonio like river walk through the center of town. Huge, pruned Plane trees shaded the cafe tables that bordered the water. We were the only tourists in town and stayed at a very small hotel. The hall light switches reminded me of something from a WWII era movie. They would only light for a few seconds as you passed down the corridor and then, you would press the round button for the next section.
One day we stopped at a neighboring hill town called Cornillion which afforded a wonderful vista of the entire valley. While others sought out a shady spot to sketch, Jane Jones (our instructor) and I could not pass up the opportunity to paint this scene. I tried to imagine living in a fairy tale like setting such as this,,,imagined living in the small farm house below with its orchards and gardens. How peaceful, and how special to have a life centered around the small village. The twin steeples of the church dominated the town center and will always remind me of Goudargues. One day I might be able to go once again "From My House to Goudargues".

Spoleto and Beyond

I like to create my watercolors from sketches that I've done on location. Last year I spent two weeks in Italy with a painting on location workshop. We home based at the La Romita School of Art in Terni and went out each day to visit the small hill towns of Umbria. Spoleto was one of the larger towns we saw. This view was from a road up above the Duomo and afforded a view of the town beyond. It's called "Spoleto and Beyond". The July/August 2007 National Geographic Traveler Magazine featured this view on their cover. It was fun to know that I'd been there, sitting in the sun, sketching and enjoying the moment.

New Gallery Location

After four years at 115 W. Highland, the Carriage House Gallery of Artists is moving to Downtown Boerne. We've just opened the doors again after fully renovating our new location at 110 Rosewood. Four owner/artists are continuing with the gallery: Linda Chalberg, Don Darst, Doug Roper and Charlie Schubert. And four new artists are joining us for the coming year. Dianne Click, Judy Korge, James Hunter and Thom Ricks will continue our tradition of displaying excellent art, offering a wide diversity and our hallmark advantage of having one of the artists present at the gallery during all open hours. We are changing our open hours to Wed.-Sat. 10am to 5pm and Sun. 12pm to 5pm.
We're Very Excited about the new look, new paint and new artwork!
